Our Process

The Mandujano Difference

Taking Measurements

The foundation of a truly custom boot is fit. Our process begins with detailed measurements and foot tracings for each individual foot, ensuring balance, comfort, and accuracy that stock sizing cannot achieve. These measurements guide every stage of the build and allow us to create boots that feel natural from the first wear and continue to improve with time.

Preparing Your Custom Last

Using your measurements and tracings, we prepare a custom last specifically for your boots. This step ensures the shape, volume, and proportions of your boots are designed around your feet alone and sets the foundation for comfort, structure, and longevity.

Skin Matching

Each hide is carefully selected and matched for consistency, character, and quality. Whether subtle or bold, leathers are evaluated by hand to ensure uniformity across the pair while preserving the natural markings that give custom boots their distinctive character.

Cutting

Every pattern piece is cut by hand following your design selections. Precision at this stage ensures clean lines, symmetry, and structural integrity throughout the boot.

Vamp & Shaft Attachment

The vamp and shaft are assembled and stitched together, bringing the design to life. This step combines form and function through careful alignment and expert craftsmanship.

Gemming vs. Channeling

Depending on the construction selected, the insole is prepared using traditional gemming or channeling techniques. Each method affects how the sole is attached and contributes to the overall feel, flexibility, and longevity of the boot.

Lasting

During lasting, the upper is shaped and secured around the custom last. This critical step locks in the fit, form, and structure of the boot and ensures it holds its shape while remaining comfortable over time.

Lemonwood Pegging

Traditional lemonwood pegs are hand-driven into the sole and expand naturally to create a strong, flexible bond. This time-tested technique reinforces durability without compromising comfort.

Edge Trimming

The sole edges are trimmed, shaped, and smoothed by hand. This refines the profile of the boot and prepares it for final finishing.

Heel Attachment

Heels are built and attached layer by layer, then shaped to match the design and wear preferences discussed during your consultation.

Bottom Staining

The sole is stained and finished by hand. This enhances both appearance and durability while adding depth and character.

Touch Up Artist

Each pair undergoes final inspection and hand-finishing to ensure every stitch, edge, and detail meets Mandujano standards before the boots leave our shop.
